A few weeks ago I had my hair colored at a salon – lightened from a dark black (natural) to a warm medium brown/red. It took two sessions of “lightening” it (bleach) and lots of color to get the vibrant color I wanted.
I know – not a very “natural” thing to do to myself. But I’ve had black hair all my life and you try living with it every summer with the NYC sun so hot you can fry an egg on a black-haired head!
So my usually soft and fine hair became dry and tough to brush. In opening up the hair follicles for color I had fried them. What to do?
Enter Burt’s Bees Avocado Butter Pre-Shampoo. A tablespoon of this combed through hair for fifteen minutes a session seriously restores lost moisture and shine. It contains natural good-for-you oils such as olive, avocado, sweet almond and vitamin E, as well as citrus rind and nettles for cleansing and a light all-natural fragrance. And at $9.95, it’s a bargain compared to letting a salon deep-condition your scalp.
The rest of my infuse-hair-with-moisture plan: sulfate-free shampoo from Trader Joe’s and Aveda’s Shampure conditioner. I just love the softness of the first and the fragrance and shine of the second.
